About
There are some Christian voices, like Walter Cronkite, espousing a social economy, where morality often takes a back seat to feeding the poor and helping people. Others espouse a much more morally focused pursuit on politics, like James Dobson.
There aren’t two sides of Christianity, there is one story and Christ completed it. Believers do not have to choose between compassion and holiness, between service and honor. The Lord isn’t half Democrat and half Republican, yet the church in America has these two factions. There is resentment on both sides, resentment about the treatment of the poor, treatment of women and treatment of our nation’s history.
The politicization of the church has only further dimmed the light of the church. Christians can and should vote and they can and should be involved in politics. But it seems far too many Christians think electing Christians and passing “Christian” laws is honoring God, and while those aren’t necessarily bad things, focusing on that route only is easy and wrong.
